Fire Season Not Over - Sheep Mountain FireSunday, August 24, 2008Clancy - Firefighters from four agencies responded to a call from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office late Sunday afternoon: a fire on Sheep Mountain Road in Clancy had been reported. Upon arrival, firefighters found about a quarter acre of two-three foot flame lengths munching around on grass and pine needles in a recreational forest area that had been treated for fire mitigation. No trees were consumed, even though the fire reached up beneath them. The fire occured on a marked Folf Course. Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy, David Kosolo, interviewed two people nearby for information about the fire. The exact cause is under investigation. Citizens are reminded that even with spates of cool, moist weather passing through the area, fire season does not end until snow stays on the ground. Please exercise extreme caution with smoking materials and notify the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, 225-4075, if you plan to start a recreational fire. ![]() MCVFD Firefighter Kirk Taylor mops up the August 24 Sheep Mountain Fire. |
